Loretta "Butch" Shoemaker - Obituary

oretta Shoemaker, better known as Butch passed away on November 19 at her home in Mayo at the age of 78. She was born on December 11, 1945, to the late Frank and Marie Lewis, in St. Petersburg, FL, but grew up from the age of six in Charlotte, NC. She worked for many years in personal lines insurance in Charlotte. After an earlier marriage, she met and married William Shoemaker (then of Charlotte), the love of her life, and they were married in 1987. They have lived in Edgewater (Mayo) since 2002. Butch and Bill spent several winters in Bradenton, Fl, and the last two in the Charlotte area. She was a member of St. Andrew the Fisherman Episcopal Church in Mayo, and the Kiwanis Club of Commodore Mayo. She always enjoyed planting and gardening and loved dogs. Her favorite dogs were Isabella, Gladys, and Lucy. One of her favorite pastimes was watching birds on the Rhode River and watching the river itself. Butch is survived by her devoted husband, William, her daughter, Leslie Ruddy, and her husband, Patrick, two grandchildren, Kyra and Tiernan, as well as her longtime friend Mary Rhodes. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Butch’s life on Thursday, December 5, 2024, from 2 pm to 4 pm at Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd. A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 6, 2024, at 11 am at St. Andrew the Fisherman Episcopal Church, 1183 Carrs Wharf Rd, Edgewater, MD 21037. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Andrew the Fisherman Episcopal Church or Gilchrist Hospice Philanthropy, 11311 McCormick Rd. Ste 350, Hunt Valley MD 21031.
